THIS
MONTH'S TOPIC:
"Carolina
Dreaming-
the mountain living
way of life!"
While sitting on the
front porch this morning, enjoying a cool, fresh breeze and
a hot cup of coffee, I began daydreaming about what city-dwellers
might consider the perfect mountain setting.
First, I felt, they
would want a front porch that overlooks a green grassy meadow. Next,
I envisioned a stream skipping over the rocks, making those
splashing, gurgling sounds streams make. Plenty
of deep green leaves on huge hardwood trees in the background-
all of which framed the picture in my mind. Finally,
a doe and her fawn dashing across this panorama would seal
the perfect morning in the mountains. Who wouldn’t
be happy living in such peaceful surroundings?
As I finished my coffee,
I realized that I was living the picture I had been envisioning
for others, except for one small detail. This morning
it was not a doe but a wild turkey that appeared, and then
quickly vanished into the woods.
Have you ever dreamed
of moving to the mountains - to enjoy the stress-free life?
I did - 18 years ago. At the time, I thought I was
just buying land in the mountains. Little did I know
that I was making a life-changing decision - from the fast
pace of the city to one of quiet, peace, and contentment. What
started as just another piece of mountain land became a family
retreat, a compound where family members and friends gather,
enriching the lives of all who entered.
You can do the same! It's
not just a simple decision - but more of a process. It
begins with trips to the mountains, researching available
properties, determining the climate, checking prices, investigating
lenders interested in easing your land purchase, and checking
out available properties. It will seem strange at first
- how will you know when you've found the right property? Do
you prefer seclusion tucked back off the main road, or want
to be near town on a friendly paved road?
What about wildlife? Recreation?
Neighbors? Schools & shopping? Would you like heavily
wooded land or an open meadow – or both? Want
high elevations with inspiring views – or a valley
setting with a stream?
What may begin as a
confusing and strangely mystical quest, will quickly become
a comfortable, enjoyable family experience. You may
