Chris Breden, Broker – REALTOR®

Chris comes to Mountain Land Company with a broad range of training and work experience. He became a licensed broker in 2005, and specializes in marketing and sales of large tracts of mountain property. Chris is an all-weather land broker, and prospective buyers can expect to be shown property “rain or shine”. Whether you enjoy hiking over a large tract of land, or prefer riding trails on our comfortable 4X4 Polaris Ranger utility vehicle, Chris is familiar with all properties listed with Mountain Land Company. Prior to becoming a broker, Chris was involved in academics, consulting, working with the public and business management.

Chris received a Master’s Degree in marine biology from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and was involved in the production of a number of commercially important aquatic plants and animals beginning in 1987. Chris began his career as a research technician in Florida at the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution and the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences.

After receiving his graduate degree, Chris worked as a field aquaculture agent for Louisiana State University providing technical assistance and educational programs to commercial producers of catfish, turtles, alligators and crawfish. He served four years as Secretary of the Louisiana Catfish Farmers Association and managed the NE Louisiana Fish Disease Laboratory, helping farmers avoid and minimize production losses.

Chris was recruited by the newly formed Illinois Fish Farmers Cooperative (IFFC) to serve as Technical Service Manager, helping build the aquaculture industry from the ground up. He worked with traditional farmers of corn and soybeans, and assisted them in the transition to becoming “fish” farmers. Chris was involved in every aspect, ranging from implementing educational programs and training, to design and construction of farming facilities, coordinating equipment and feed supply, farm management, marketing and harvest.

During the last two years of his tenure in the aquaculture industry, Chris was assigned the added duties of CEO for the IFFC. Chris retired from aquaculture leaving behind a well-established hybrid striped bass industry in Illinois, which is currently a major supplier to the live-fish markets in Toronto, Canada.

Chris has always had an appreciation for hard work and the outdoors, whether related to business, or leisure. He is as comfortable crewing on a three-mast schooner, as he is scuba diving, long-lining for sharks off the coast, hiking or showing prospective buyers a large tract of land in the North Carolina Mountains.

In the office, Chris brings extensive experience when it comes to writing, technical drafting, marketing, and managing the business. He enjoys preparing topographical maps and aerial photos, or working with tools that help potential land buyers navigate through especially large mountain properties that we offer for sale at Mountain Land Company. Do you prefer dealing in a language other than English? Chris is fluent in Spanish and can carry a pretty good conversation in French as well.
