BUYING LAND – 4th OF JULY FREEDOM! – July 2005

Buy Land and Farm – Enjoy the Freedom!

“Land Ownership of Mountain Land – a Cause for Celebration!”

With three close family members in harm’s way in Afghanistan, this 4th of July brought to mind the connection between the freedoms we enjoy in this great country and the sacrifice made by those defending our freedom. Hopefully, you enjoyed a trip to the moutains, a few hot dogs by the grill, or a dandy fireworks show over the 4th.

At some point in the past, you’ve either inquired about purchasing land here in the Blue Ridge mountains, or are in the beginning stages of such a search.  One question we’re often asked is “Are there restrictions on the land?”  Our answer is almost always “No, you’re free to do as you please with the land, using it for any lawful purpose.”

So, there you have it – just one of the many freedoms and rights we have as a citizen of this great nation.   Where else in the world can you travel as you please (by “planes, trains, and automobiles”), cross state and county lines without showing identifying documents, picnic on the Blue Ridge Parkway, camp on your land, or build a “forever” dream home.

So, the message this month is a simple one: dream big dreams!  If one of those dreams happens to be owning mountain land – so be it.  Give us a call.  If not, enjoy the summer, take a vacation with your family, and continue living the good life.  While you’re at it, take a moment to lend your thoughts and prayers to the men and women who are defending our freedoms!

Next month, I’ll resume our series of advice columns for buying mountain land.
