North Carolina Mountain Vacation – July 2008

Mountains in North Carolina – a Great Vacation!

“The North Carolina Mountains – cool mornings & great trail hiking!”

Tired of seeing gas prices rise practically every day?  Aren’t we all?  If it’s putting a crimp in your vacation plans, you may want to reconsider what you call a vacation.

Does vacation mean travel each year to a strange faraway place.  Does it mean packing up the family, luggage and the dog to drive across 5 states for two weeks – coming back home exhausted?  If so, consider breaking up your vacation into a half-dozen long-weekends throughout the year – within easy driving distance of home.

If you live in North Carolina, there are few areas that are not within about 2-3 hours driving distance of the mountains.  Compare driving across five states at 300 miles per state and back home.  The fuel alone could cost you over $500. If you live three hours from the mountains, it would be closer to $75 round-trip.  That adds up to a little over six relaxing weekend trips a year – more beneficial to your family than the exhausting two weeks in Texas.

So, what’s the real message here?  Just this: even with high fuel prices, the North Carolina mountains offers cool mornings, day hikes on the Appalachian Trail, tubing & kayaking the New River, roaming the Blue Ridge Parkway – and best of all, a slower pace that leaves you refreshed instead of bushed.

Now, if this idea sounds inviting, consider creating a plan that will provide years of enjoyment.  There are two options: buy land for a weekend or family retreat or make a permanent move to the mountains as I did 18 years ago.  Depending on your source of income, the weekend retreat may be your beginning point.

Either way, however, the first step in your plan is to determine whether you will buy a large tract of land for peace, privacy, and seclusion (usually 50-100+ acres) or a 2-acre parcel in a subdivision, with neighbors and convenient to shopping and restaurants.  If the first step sounds inviting, you should Email or call us now to begin exploring the possibilities.  Buying a large land tract is not a snap decision – it’s more of a process.  It begins by getting acquainted with you and your objectives, followed up by exploring available properties to get a feel for large tract living.  This can take months, thus it’s important to begin now.

Because we specialize in large parcels only, we understand this process, and know that it’s important to you not to be pressured into buying the first land you see.  That’s why it’s essential to get acquainted first, to share information, to become informed about land ownership, and only then begin to identify suitable parcels.  It can be quite an adventure, and lots fun for your family.

Once you find your perfect spot here in the mountains, you’ll begin coming more often, and finally – plan the home or cabin of your dreams.  It’s at that point that you will become aware of whether a weekend retreat will do – or a permanent home should be the final result.

Start exploring the possibilities now.  Ask us for a FREE copy of “Carolina Dreaming” our land buyers’ manual.  It’s an easy read, and you’ll learn everything I would tell you in person if we spent the day together looking at land.  We’ll leave the light on for you!
